TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — TREES, Inc. partnered with Urban Forestry Saturday to help plant new trees at Dobbs Park in honor of Earth Day. Volunteers planted approximately 200 trees.
At the event, Mayor Duke Bennett issued a proclamation making April 24 Arbor Day in Terre Haute. TREES, Inc. President Kimberly Kimbler said this proclamation is important so that people understand the need and importance of planting trees. Though they were unable to celebrate Arbor Day last year, it remains the group’s mission to replenish the urban forestry.
Elizabeth Scamihorn of TREES, Inc. said, “2020 marked TREES, Inc.’s 30th anniversary and so we weren’t able to celebrate any of our anniversary celebrations, and so today is a nice day to not only celebrate the Arbor Day proclamation but also to celebrate the 30 years that TREES, Inc. has been making an impact.”
TREES, Inc. only plants trees that are native to Indiana, including the Sycamore tree.
