CARLISLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Sullivan County deputies arrested a wanted serious violent felon after he lead authorities on a vehicle chase.
Forty-seven year old James “Mike” Shipman of Sullivan had outstanding warrants out of Indiana and Illinois. His inital charge was Possession of a Handgun by a felon
Around 4:30 Friday, Sullivan deputies learned of Shipman’s potential location outside of a home in Carlisle. Authorities located Shipman’s vehicle and called for assistance. Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom says Shipman then left the residence, when authorities followed with emergency lights on, he lead authorities on a 25 minute chase through Carlisle.
Cottom says Shipman drove through multiple fields and yards before stopping just outside of Carlisle.
Authorities ordered Shipman out of the vehicle, following precautions of a high-risk felony stop. He now faces additional charges of Resisting Law Enforcement with a vehicle.
Shipman is in the Sullivan County Jail with $32,000 bond.
Sullivan County deputies were assisted by Sullivan city police and the Dugger town marshal.
All persons accused of a crime are considered innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
