INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Hoosiers could soon be able to buy cold beer at grocery stores in Indiana.
That’s the goal behind a piece of legislation authored by Sen. Philip Boots (R-District 23). Boots brought forth a bill that would roll back provisions that bar the sale of cold beer at grocery stores and drug stores in Indiana.
The bill also rolls back the current law against selling and delivering cold beer for carryout. Currently, only package liquor stores and restaurants with carryout privileges can sell cold beer.
The bill is currently being reviewed by the Senate Committee on Public Policy; Boots is a member of that committee.

Over in the House of Representatives, Rep. Tonya Pfaff (D-District 43) is spearheading legislation to expand voter registration in the Hoosier state. A bill authored by Pfaff aims to allow voters to complete same-day registration at the polls. The voter would just need to fill out a voter registration form , provide proof of residency, and affirm that they had not voted at another location.
Pfaff said this legislation is just one way she wants to make voting easier for Hoosiers, especially those who have busy lives who may find that they forgot to register within the current deadline, which is 29 days before a general or municipal election. The bill is under review by the House Committee on Elections and Apportionment.

Local Rep. Bob Heaton (R-District 46) is focusing on trauma-informed educational training in one of his bills. The bill, if made into law, would require each school corporation, charter school, and state accredited nonpublic school to train employees who have regular, direct contact with students.
The training would focused on evidence based trauma and social emotional learning reactions to that trauma. Educators would be trained by July 1, 2026. This bill is currently under review in the House Committee on Education.
More than 1,000 bills have been introduced for the 2021 General Assembly, which lasts through the end of April.
