BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Clay County YMCA hosted their annual Clay County Food Delivery Program Giveaway at the Clay County Fairgrounds Saturday morning.
Over 200 volunteers came together to pack 950 bags of food to feed over 800 children during their holiday breaks.
Some families lined up in their cars as volunteers loaded up their trunks with cereal, canned goods and other non-perishable food items.
Others received a socially-distanced visit from volunteers who dropped food off at their doorsteps.
Nicole Fry, Clay County YMCA’s executive director, said they want to make that local children know that their community cares about them.
“This is important especially during time of year. With COVID-19 it’s changed everything up for everybody and a lot of families have been out of work or may have added stress,” she said. “We want to ensure that children in our community have access to food so that they don’t hungry over the two weeks that they’re out of school.”
The giveaway costs around $30,000 and it’s funded by community donations and Duke Energy.
