FAIRVIEW, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An early morning housefire in Fairview resulted in one fatality, Vermillion County Sheriff Mike Phelps reported Friday.
Vermillion County 911 received reports at 2:14 a.m. of a structure fire in the area of Gilbert and East Seventh Streets. Within eight minutes of the 911 call, the Fairview Park Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene to a fully involved structure fire. Mutual aid was requested from Clinton City, Black Diamond, Helt Township and Lyford Fire Departments to assist in battling the blaze.
Information gathered at the scene led firefighters to believe that there may have been a person inside the residence at the time of the fire. After the fire was fully extinguished and with the assistance of a specialty trained K-9 from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, a body was located in the rubble of the fire at 8:00 a.m.
Vermillion County Coroner Roger Lewis confirms that foul play is not suspected and the investigation into the death is ongoing.
At this time, the name of the deceased is not being released pending positive identification.
Participating in the investigation are the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office, the Fairview Town Marshal’s Office, the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Vermillion County Coroner’s Office.
