VIGO CO., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — On November 19, Vigo County Auditor-elect Rebecca Coleman is going before a judge in hopes of retaining her victory.
A petition filed on November 10 by current auditor James Bramble claims Coleman has past felony convictions that would make her ineligible to hold office.
According to the petition, Coleman was convicted of Theft and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery in the late 90s under the name Rebecca Reedy.
On November 13, the Vigo County Election Board certified the results of the election.
But now, Judge Lucky Reddy has issued an order to stay the auditor’s race results.
The other race being contested in court is Vigo County Treasurer.
A petition filed by current Treasurer Nancy Allsup claims Treasurer-elect Josie Swalls-Thompson is not a resident of Vigo county, but of Florida.
The petition accuses Swalls-Thompson of having a homestead exemption on a property in Fort Myers.
Swalls-Thompson said the following in a statement, “I strongly plan to defend my election and clear up any confusion over a Florida property I purchased in 2013 prior to my marriage.”
Swalls-Thompson was scheduled to go before Judge Michael Rader; however, a change of venue was granted on November 17. Her case will go to the next available judge.
