BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Brazil Police Department headquarters sat in the basement of Brazil City Hall for more than 2 decades.
The biggest challenge for the department was space.
Chief Clint McQueen said they were in dire need for a new location.
“It was a pass through area. It was very small. We kind of outgrew our needs. I believe it was originally designed for about 8 officers back in 1967,” McQueen said.
The new headquarters are located inside the former Duke Energy Building in Brazil.
It has more office space, 2 interrogation rooms and a workout area for officers.
McQueen said the support from Brazil Mayor Brian Wyndham and city council made the transition a success.
“It was his idea and his brainstorming to get us out of a space that was cramped and allowed us to have a better working area for the police in general. We’re very happy and thankful. I couldn’t ask for a better mayor.”
Mayor Wyndham said he believes it’s important to invest into the needs of our public servants.
“Folks in public safety have a tremendous responsibility and a tough job. One of our goals is to keep them with up to date equipment and anything else they need. We want our community to have a good public safety community around us,” he noted.
