VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A suspect who was injured after police returned fire during a Sept. 27 pursuit in Vermillion County has been released from the hospital and is now being held at the Vermillion County Jail.
Omaree Shay Roby, 23, Milwaukee, Wisc., was released from IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis last Wednesday and was taken into custody. He is being held on a $150,000 bond with no 10% allowed on charges of aggravated battery, criminal recklessness, pointing a firearm and resisting law enforcement.
Roby led police on a two-county chase after Vigo County authorities saw a car speeding northbound in the area of Third Street and Margaret Drive in Terre Haute around 4:22 a.m. Sept. 27.
The chase continued north on to State Road 63, reaching speeds up to 120 miles per hour before a tire deflation device was used in Vermillion County. According to authorities, he then drove away on the deflated tires, until he lost control and left the roadway at the exit ramp of State Road 63 and U.S. 36.
Roby allegedly began shooting at officers, with several officers returning fire, injuring him.
Once the State Police investigation is complete, it will be submitted to the Vermillion County and Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office for review and action as deemed appropriate by those offices.
