TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Union Health Foundation is hosting an essay contest for Wabash Valley fifth graders with a chance to win money for their classrooms. The essay should highlight why students are thankful for healthcare workers in our community.
“With the COVID-19 pandemic, our team of caregivers have had an especially difficult year. We thought this contest would be a great way to show them support and at the same time get area students thinking about the role healthcare workers play in keeping our community healthy,” said Foundation executive director Joel Harbaugh.
The contest is open to all fifth graders enrolled in public or private school in Clay, Greene, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vigo and Vermillion counties in Indiana and Clark, Crawford and Edgar counties in Illinois. Essays must be typed and no more than 500 words and emailed by noon on Friday, Oct. 30 to Union Health Foundation at Foundation@uhhg.org.
Foundation staff and volunteers will review all submissions and select the top five entries. Those entries will be posted on Union Health Foundation’s Facebook page from Nov. 16-30. The top three essays with the most shares and likes by noon on Nov. 30 will be the winners. Official announcement of the winners will take place on the Foundation’s Facebook page on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 1.
The first place winner’s classroom will receive $400, second place $200 and third place $100.
