TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A new piece of safety equipment is coming to the Vigo County Juvenile Justice Center.
Tuesday, Vigo County commissioners approved a body scanner for the center.
Officials say the technology will allow for more thorough scanning while limiting person-to-person contact.
The director of the juvenile center Norm Loudermilk says a hand wand is currently used for this process.
The equipment will be paid for using a COVID relief fund set up by the auditor’s office.
A similar body scanner was also recently approved for Vigo County Community Corrections.
Also on Tuesday, commissioners approved an application for construction design release of the new Vigo County Jail.
Commissioners say they must notify the Indiana Department of Homeland Security that they intend to install a qualified fire suppression plan.
