TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Progress is being made to bring a new community center to Terre Haute.
Wednesday, the building located at 1631 Liberty Avenue was demolished.
There are plans to use the site for a community center.
The company Anchored Care Residential Services is in charge of the project.
When constructed, leaders say the center will offer a high school sized gym, resources for drug and alcohol addiction, and after school care among others.
The president of Anchored Care Residential Services, Delisa Savage, says she is excited to see some of the first steps moving forward.
“It’s just another step of us getting to the goal of us reaching helping our community. Not by just saying what we are going to do but we want some actions, we want it to be visible,” Savage said.
Savage hopes to have the community center completed in 2021 or 2022.
