INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Indiana State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that killed a Terre Haute man and resulted in the arrest of the driver.
Police said it happened just after midnight Saturday morning on I-65, near the north split. They said the right lane of I-65 was temporarily closed for construction.
According to the investigation, officers believe a car was approaching the construction zone in the right lane, but the driver failed to merge to the left. They said, instead, the driver swerved to the right to avoid hitting an arrow board, hitting 23-year-old David Vasquez Jr., of Terre Haute. He was standing inside the construction zone.
They said callers reported Vasquez lying in the road and unconscious. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, the vehicle hit a stationary construction truck, then spun into the lane of traffic striking a semi and another vehicle. There were no other injuries in this crash.
The driver, 24-year-old Cheyenne Prass of Indianapolis, was arrested on preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated causing death.
