SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An inmate death at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Carlisle is being investigated as a homicide.
According to Indiana State Police, investigators suspect foul play in the death of 57-year-old Kevin J. Carpenter.
Carpenter was found unresponsive by correctional facility staff at 5:40 Sunday morning. Staff gave Carpenter first aid, but it didn’t work.
Indiana State Police have initiated a death investigation at the request of the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility and Sullivan County Prosecutor Ann Smith-Mischler.
An autopsy was conducted Monday morning at Terre Haute Regional Hospital, those results are still pending.
Carpenter was incarcerated with the Indiana Department of Corrections since February 2011.
