TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– More than 50 Terre Haute Police Department applicants gathered at Terre Haute South High School for the written and physical fitness tests.
39 applicants passed both tests, according to the Terre Haute Police Department Facebook page.
Those that advanced will go through a series of interviews and a background investigation.
If hired, the new department applicants will be hired for one year within in the department.
Ryan Adamson, Public Information Officer for THPD, said the hiring process could take anywhere between three to six months.
“It’s not your average job where you just apply and get hired. There is a written test, a physical agility test, the background investigation, the background interviews. Police officers are held to a higher standard and rightfully so. We have to make sure that starts from the day that people apply,” he said.
Adamson said due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s new hire process was delayed.
