TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — This Memorial Day weekend, members of the American Legion Post 2 Patriot Guard, as well as local and state law enforcement, helped honor a fallen soldier from Terre Haute who died earlier this month in a non-combat related incident in Iraq.
The remains of Sgt. Christopher Curry, a 23-year-old Terre Haute native, arrived in Indianapolis Saturday morning where the Patriot Guard and Indiana State Police were waiting to serve as escorts on the journey back to Terre Haute.
“I have the honor this Memorial Day weekend along with the Patriot Guard, escorting Sergeant Christopher Curry who lost his life on May 4th in Iraq from a non-combat related incident,” ISP PIO Sgt. Matt Ames tweeted.
Despite rain and thunderstorms Saturday, members of the Patriot Guard and some community members lined the street as Curry’s remains arrived at Callahan Hughes Funeral Home in Terre Haute.
Curry was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
