CARLISLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) in Carlisle is donating masks to the community.
Those involved in the facility’s Purposeful Living Unit Serve (PLUS) Program are given the opportunity to give back to the community.
PLUS is a program for offenders focused on the rehabilitation process for them to rejoin society, giving them hands on experience to better themselves and the community.
The facility’s joint venture partner “Indiana Correctional Industries” is also making thousands of masks to donate as well.
WVCF Community Service Director Jackie Storm said the PLUS program gives the offenders a chance to do community work, something they enjoy doing.
“They feel really good about being able to help,” Jackie said. “We’ve gotten requests for these masks, they’re going out to so many thousands of people in the community, and that’s their opportunity to give back.”
PLUS members have been able to produce over 15,000 masks. 3,200 of them for staff members, contractors and offenders at the facility. With the other 4,300 going to other IDOC facilities.
