FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Community members rolled up their sleeves Friday to give the gift of life.
Versiti Blood Center of Indiana held a community blood drive at North Central High School in Farmersburg.
Field Representative Shelly Shearer says they have seen a lot of donors and their blood supply is currently stable.
However, she says it’s still important for healthy donors to give because she expects the need for blood to increase in the summer.
“This summer, hopefully, we’re going to see things starting to change and some of those elective surgeries being added back on the calendar. We don’t know that for sure but that’s what we’re anticipating,” says Shearer.
The blood center required appointments for Friday’s drive to encourage social distancing.
Shearer also says staff are taking donors’ temperatures and asking them a few medical questions before beginning.
