SHELBURN, Ind. — Shelburn, Indiana has been awarded $497,664 in funds from the Community Crossings Grant Program.
This program, offered through the Indiana Department of Transportation, is designed to fund projects in order to improve local roads and bridges for Indiana municipalities.
Shelburn, located in between Terre Haute and Sullivan, is a community that thrives on connectivity throughout West Central Indiana. The town used to rely on the connectivity of the interurban depot that passed directly through the town, but now prides itself on its connectivity to the rest of West Central Indiana through its well-maintained road systems.
“In Shelburn, we understand the value of reliable, safe and efficient transportation. It is engraved in our roots. However, maintaining our roads and bridges is also about promoting our quality of place,” Jay Southwood, Shelburn Clerk/Treasurer, said.
As part of Shelburn’s quality of life initiatives, Shelburn has invested resources into multiple economic development opportunities, including the town’s Historic Interurban Depot. With opportunities on the rise, the updates and maintenance to roads work in part with their bigger picture.
Shelburn will announce a list of roads to be prioritized for maintenance in the future.
