TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Elementary school teachers throughout the Wabash Valley are finding ways to connect with their students while school is closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb last week closed all K-12 schools throughout the state until May 1 to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
Over the weekend, Hoosier Prairie Elementary principal Jennifer Nickle and teacher Erin Frazier drove to student houses to talk to them through storm doors. They also left bags of activities on their doorsteps.
Benjamin Franklin Elementary administrators and teachers took part in a parade Tuesday, driving through neighborhoods to greet their students. Students stood outside, holding up signs for their educators.
Jennifer Norris, a first grade teacher, said the parade had a “wonderful turnout.” She noted it was nice to know how much students missed being at school and appreciated their teachers as much as they did.
