TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Dozens of local non-profit organizations received donations Wednesday thanks to the generosity of four local residents decades ago.
First Financial Bank presented checks to 57 non-profits. The money comes from charitable trust funds established by four former Terre Haute residents: Oscar Bauer, Frederick R. Benson, Mary Smith Young and Sheldon Swope.
The Vigo County Historical Society and Museum was one of the many organizations to receive money.
“It goes toward operations of our museum which we just opened in November and it’s really, really nice to have the support to keep that operation going and to do all the fun stuff that we have planned in the museum,” says Executive Director Susan Tingley.
Krista Grange, the Director of Trust and Asset Management at First Financial Bank, says it’s important to recognize the donors who established these charitable trusts decades ago.
“Obviously they had a strong commitment to the community and they had a vision, and we’re able to fulfill this vision each year with this charitable reception,” says Grange.
Over $101,000 was distributed Wednesday.
