The mayor of Paris, Illinois, will serve another term
Incumbent Craig Smith defeated challenger Daniel Briseno in the Illinois Consolidated Election.
Smith won the race with 68% of the vote.
“We’ve got a great group of people who work in Paris. I’ve always said the word ‘we’ because there’s so much volunteerism in Paris and people work together and that’s what makes this community go,” Smith said following the election. “And as long as we keep working together, Paris is going to keep growing and we have a lot of good things coming up in the future so I’m looking forward to it and looking forward to working with everybody else.”
Prior to the election, Smith told WTWO/WAWV that this term would be his last, but he wasn’t as sure following Tuesday’s results, saying simply “We’ll see”
